Important Day on our Journey

It was an important day yesterday when Bonkers Squared made its first donation of £1250 plus £312.50 Gift aid to The NHS Christie Foundation Trust helping them provide services and care over and above that provided by NHS funding. Donations like this make a huge difference for the care and treatment Christie are able to provide for patients and their families.

The donation was made to the Dean Thompson Fund which we will be supporting through our round Scotland sea paddle. Dean sadly passed away in 2008 aged just 19 years old from bone cancer. Mum, Dad and Sister Diane, Gary and Rebecca together with friends have since raised almost £80,000 and hope to raise £100,000 for the Teenage and Young Adult unit. Dean was my Godson.

Diane said: “Dean was treated at The Christie for a year. The treatment he received was amazing and the staff were fantastic. We always knew as a family that we wanted to give something back even after Dean sadly passed away.

“We have done so many different challenges in Dean’s name, starting with a charity evening which his sister organised only three weeks after he died.”

Fundraising activities have ranged from royal wedding parties, a coast to coast bike ride, to a climb to the top of Kilimanjaro. They now aim to carry on thinking of new ideas and challenges to raise as much money as possible and keep Dean’s memory alive.

Bonkers Square are proud to help support them.
